Rules for the 2013 Tournament

This years tournament will be held in the Algarve, Portugal and will be played under the following rules:

  1. 4 rounds of golf will be played and the days that they will be played on will be decided beforehand.
  2. All 4 rounds will be played using the strokes format.
  3. A maximum of 5 over par will be set on each hole so no more shots will be counted after that (8 on a par 3, 9 on a par 4 and a 10 on a par 5).
  4. At the end of each of these rounds points will be handed out depending upon where you finish amongst the other contenders.
  5. 5 points will be given to the lowest scorer, 4 points to the next and so on. 0 points will be given to highest scorer of the round.
  6. If 2 or more players end up on the same number of strokes then they are each given the same points for the place that they finish in. For example if 3 players finish 3rd then they will each be given 3 points and the last player will still be given 0 points.
  7. After 3 rounds the league table will decide who goes out together in the final round. The bottom 3 first followed by the top 3.
  8. At the end of 4 rounds the winner will be the golfer with the most points in the league table.
  9. In addition 1 point will be given for every par you get, 2 points for a birdie and so on. This will be kept in a seperate column and will be used if 2 or more contenders end up on the same number of points.
  10. If after this contenders still cannot be seperated then there will finish in an equal position.

Finally ..

The first 3 round groupings will be decided before the plane sets of and will be announced here in due course.

Rules for the 2012 Tournament

This years tournament will be played under the following rules:

  1. The game format will be match play with no handicaps. Full rules on match play see - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match_play
  2. Every player challenges all other entrants to a single match and this will be classed as their home leg. This means that every player will play everyone twice, once at home and once away.
  3. The challenger picks the course but cannot pick a course that his opponent has played twice or more unless the opponent agrees in advance.
  4. The course chosen can be anywhere in the world but if travelling / accomodation costs exceed £30 then the challenger has to offer to swallow them.
  5. The tees are to be decided by the challenger before the match is played. If these tees are not active on the day of the match, the tees closer to the greens are to be used.
  6. The out of bounds areas which are set out by each course are not applicable.
  7. "Gimmes" can be given by the opposition.
  8. The result of the match awards 2 points for a won match, 1 point for a halved match and 0 points for a lost match.
  9. If any players finish level on points the number of holes won throughout the whole competition is used to decide their position with the higher being the better. This will be known as “hole difference”.
  10. Once all matches have been played the top 4 players go into a knock out style competetion, keeping with match play, where 1st position plays 4th position and 2nd position plays 3rd position. This then results in the winners playing in a final one off match to decide the title. Also the losers will play in a 3rd / 4th place playoff match (if they can be bothered).
  11. The courses for the knockout matches will be played at are to be decided by the player that has finished higher up in the league table.
  12. Rule 3 does not apply in the knockout stages.
  13. If players halve the match during a knockout match then playoff holes will need to be played. These holes will have to be decided in advance and agreed on before the first hole of that match is played.

Finally ..

Stroke scores can be recorded on the website if any player wishes to keep track of them throughout the season regardless of where and when they are played.

A small entrance fee may be required to fund any prizes or website costs that may be incurred throughout the year. This, however, is currently at £0.
